After you have built a starter web site (site with less than 10 pages), it is time to have it placed in various search engine directories. For example, at Yahoo you will find an "Add Your URL" link which allows you to let Yahoo know about your site.

The thing is, a lot of other web site owners know about that link. How many "Add my site!" requests do you think Yahoo or Google will get each day? Or even every hour?

Have you ever had one of those days when your Inbox was bursting at the seams with too much email? How did you feel? Pretty cranky, I'll bet. Moreso if the email sender did not follow certain standards. For example, what if they sent you a message that contained all uppercase or capitalized letters?

Or what if they used colored text, as in neon pink? Does it make you want to hit the delete key?

The same thing goes with search engines. If you don't follow their standards when submitting your site's link for inclusion in their directory, it will take a while before your site gets listed.

What will you do if you receive the same email over and over from the same person? Probably the same as what Yahoo will feel if you keep re-submitting your inclusion request to them.

The bottomline is: Place yourself in the shoes of those search engine directory administrators.

There's a challenge, though. Every person is different and has his or her own set of quirks. How do you know that what you will do will not irritate someone? How can you be sure that your actions will not erase your site's existence in the sought-after directories?

Through trial and error. It's just like making friends. You slowly figure out over the years what buttons to avoid pressing, so to speak.

Do you have the time to slowly get to know these search engine placement (SEP) quirks? Chances are, no.

And that's why you'll need to rely on reputable SEP companies. You simply can't do everything by yourself. You'll need to outsource certain activities.

And finally, outsourcing search engine placement activities give you more time to create multimedia content, such as a podcast that will send more visitors to your web site.
