Isulong SEOPH Episode 6: Directory Submissions

Welcome to this episode of the Isulong SEOPH Podcast on Directory Submissions.

I've tried submitting the Isulong SEOPH Podcast at InMyEar.com site to various directories. I've also tried the outsourcing route. Here are some observations:

1. Some directories will take at least a week before displaying your site listing. But if you pay them, they'll make the link appear faster.

2. Some directories will not list you if you don't link back to them.

3. Some directories will not list you if the email you provided is a throw-away email.

4. Some directories will put your listing on a page that has a very low pagerank.

5. Submitting to directories does not guarantee a high search engine placement. Your site will drop in the search engine rankings if your competitors frequently update their sites. It looks like the old "add one page a week" tip is not enough, because your competitors are adding 3 to 4 pages a week.

Now, it's time to test whether updating the Sitemap (and not the homepage) is a good idea. Stay tuned!
